5-Star NHTSA First for Pickup Segment

The 2014 Chevy Silverado has already made significant head way as a redesigned truck.  Already acclaimed for its capabilities, style and fuel efficiency, the all-new 2014 Silverado has now become the first pickup truck to achieve a 5-star overall vehicle score in the current testing standards from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The new Silverado comes with many first for the truck segment including:  forward collision alert, lane-departure warning, and GM’s Safety Alert Seat which vibrates the seat as an added operator warning.

The safety features in the new 2014 Silverado are unmatched by rivals from Ford, Ram, Toyota, and Nissan.

2013 CNG Chevy Silverado 2500HD

Red River Chevrolet has received a couple of the new 2013 CNG Converted 2500HD Silverado Trucks.  These trucks are capable of going more than 650 miles when both tanks are full.

Chevrolet is offering CNG converted trucks only on the 2500HD Extended Cab models at this time.  You can get the truck in work truck trim level all the way up to the LTZ trim.   The great thing about this conversion from Chevrolet is that the standard warranty you would get from Chevrolet remains the same for this CNG truck.

If you are not real familiar with CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) trucks, it is basically a conversion done to the vehicle to allow it to run on compressed natural gas and regular fuel.  This type of fuel is much cleaner than using regular gasoline.  It is also much cheaper.  When we filled up our tank as you will see if you watch the video below, the price of a GGE or Gas Gallon Equivalent was $1.45.  Here at Red River Chevrolet in Bossier City, LA we have sold two of these trucks.  We can order them as of now, so if you are interested in getting one of these trucks, please stop by your local Chevrolet Dealership today!

2014 Chevrolet Silverado Unveiled!

Chevrolet has finally shown the new 2014 Silverado to the public, and from what we can see here at Red River Chevrolet, it looks to be another great truck!  As always, we will keep all of you up to date on the new 2014 Silverado here in Shreveport, LA and Bossier City, LA!

For starters, the new 2014 Chevy Silverado will feature 3 brand new engines, the EcoTec3 4.3L V6, a 5.3L V8 and a 6.2L V8 each which have been completely redesigned.  These will include the direct injection fuel systems, smaller combustion chamber that gives a compression ratio of 11:1 or higher, variable valve timing, cylinder deactivation and much more!  Fuel economy numbers have not been released yet, but GM is confident that they will beat the competition.

The 2014 Chevy Silverado itself features numerous enhancements.  The design of the 2014 Silverado is not only about looks, but also about function and aerodynamics.  The front end of the truck is designed to improve sealing for more efficient cooling, while the roof and tailgate spoiler were shaped to smooth airflow over the truck to help reduce drag.  The new flush-fitting doors help reduce wind noise in the cabin as well as to reduce drag to provide more efficiency.

The bed of the truck has also undergone some changes.  Chevrolet has added a corner step built in to the bumper combined with handholds built in the new box rail protectors to allow easier access into the bed of the truck.  The bed is also available with LED lighting under the bed rails to help while working at night.

For the first time Silverado 1500 Crew Cabs will be available with the longer 6’6” bed box, as well as the 5’8” bed box that is currently on the Silverado Crew Cab models.

The 2014 Silverado will feature the all new Chevrolet MyLink system which will help Silverado Customers utilize their smartphones while they are driving and provide a much more user friendly experience with the infotainment system in their vehicle.  The MyLink system brings voice recognition and numerous ports and power outlets to support multiple devices.

The cab in the Silverado is actually made stronger with nearly two-thirds of the structure made from high-strength steel to provide improved safety for the passengers.  Shear-style body mounts, hydraulic body mounts, and many other NVH (Noise Vibration and Harshness) enhancements all help to reduce noise in the cab and make the new Silverado one of the quietest in the segment.

Some of the other features that the new 2014 Silverado will include is the segment exclusive Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning with an Active Safety Seat and Rear Park Assist.  The new Silverado will also include Stabilitrak with Trailer Sway Control and Hill Start Assist.

The all-new 2014 Silverado has numerous upgrades and improvements, too many for me to mention all of them here, but to learn more, check out the video of the unveil below.

Black Diamond Edition 2013 Avalanche

As you may or may not know, the 2013 Avalanche will mark the last year the Chevrolet Avalanche will be produced.  I think there are definitely mixed feeling about it going away, some people don’t care for it, but there are a ton of people that absolutely love the vehicle.  Personally, I really like the Avalanche.  One can not deny that it has one VERY smooth ride!  Because it is built on the same chassis as the Tahoe and Suburban, the ride is excellent!

In order to give the loyal customers of the Avalanche a final farewell, GM has decided to produce a special edition Avalance for its last year – A Black Diamond Edition.  On top of that, the MSRP will be cut $2500!  GM states, that this is a way of saying “Thank You” to all the fans of the truck.  Only time will tell to see if we get anything similar to that vhehicle

Silverado Truck Plants Idle

What everyone has been waiting for is finally close to being done.  The Chevrolet Silverado is getting a face lift!  There has not been much released about what changes are going to be made to the truck, but I am sure it will substantial!

Four of the GM Truck plants will go idle in 2012 to re-tool for the next generation silverado.  Fort Wayne will shut down for a total of nine weeks through the months of January to October, Flint will stop production for six weeks from June to November, and the Arlington plant will shut down for Five weeks from June to December.  The other truck plant in Mexico will also shut down for a certain period of time, but it has yet to be released.

GM has been trying to generate a surplus to make-up for the future down time.  Time will tell what GM has in store for us, but I think it will be quite exciting!

$275M Investment for Next Generation Silverado

GM has announced its latest factory investment as $275 million spent on the Fort Wayne, IN Assembly Plant for the next generation Sierra and Silverado Trucks.

General Motors stated back in May that it would be spending nearly $2 Billion on factory investments over the next year and a half.  Promised upgrades have been made for the Corvette Factory in Bowling Green, KY; engine plants in Flint and Bay City, MI; a powertrain facility in Taledo, OH; along with several others.  Most of the money from GM is staying close to home with over $1.4 Billion being invested in Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan.

The Fort Wayne assembly plant is supposedly going to begin producing a next-generation Silverado and Sierra truck as a 2013 model.  This is not confirmed, and all we can do is wait and see.

GM Push On Sweepstakes

In March, GM officially started their Push On sweepstakes.  Now that we are in May it is still going strong.  The sweepstakes will end on May 31, so if you have still not pushed your blue OnStar button, make sure you do it before then!GM has announced that you do not have to be an OnStar subscriber to be entered.  All you have to do is push the button and wait for a live person to talk to you.  Thats it!   There is no obligation to buy anything either.  By pushing the OnStar button you are entering yourself to be one of ten people to win the GM product of YOUR choice!  This could be anything from a new 2011 Chevy Camaro, 2011 Chevy Aveo, or even the 2011 Corvette ZR1!  The only vehicle that is excluded from this sweepstakes is the Volt.
So the bottom line here, is that if you have not yet pushed your OnStar button, do not hesitate any longer!  Go ahead and do it.  There is a limit of ONE entry per vehicle, so you only have to do it once.
Good luck!
