2014 Chevrolet Impala Top of Consumer Reports

2014impala

The all-new 2014 Chevy Impala has gone from last place in the Consumer Reports to first!  The impala conquered the report with features like “surprisingly agile handling,” “Excellent Braking,” “generally high-quality materials” and technology that is “refreshingly intuitive and easy to use.”

Previous year model Impalas scored a 63, but this one has gone well above that margin to score a 95.  Only the BMW 135i coupe and Tesla Model S have scored higher.  Consumer Reports found overall that the 2014 Chevy Impala is competitive with cars that cost $20,000 more, including the Audi A6 and the Lexus LS460L as well as the Acura RLX and Jaguar XF.

The Sun VS Your Vehicle’s Paint

Well it seems summer time is here!  The temperatures are getting hotter and hotter around the Shreveport and Bossier City area!   Everyone seems to like the summer time, as you can go swimming, go to the beach, or just spend time outside.  However, just as your skin can get damaged by the intense sun, so can that new Chevrolet Silveradoor Camaro!

Vehicle’s paint today is much better than it was 20 years ago, but the sun can still fade and cause oxidation to the paint over time.  There are a few things that you can do to help keep your vehicle looking like the day it rolled off the showroom floor.  For starters, you will want to seek shade where you park your vehicle.  The direct sunlight can be very damaging, but when you park your vehicle out of the sun, you are preventing damage of the harmful UV rays that can damage not only your paint but also you headlights and any rubberized trim.

Below are a few more tips that can help your vehicle during the hot summer months.

Wash your vehicle often!
Washing your vehicle often and getting the pollution and grime off the paint is the first step.  It is best to wash it out of the direct sunlight as the paint will be more brittle when extremely hot.  Also, you should not scrub the tar and bugs on your vehicle because it will increase the likeliness that you will scratch the paint.  Instead, you should try “claying” your vehicle.  The clay is a safe way to remove all the debris from your vehicles paint.  Also, now days most car wash solutions include a type of wax that can help add a barrier for your paint.

Dry Thoroughly.
There are a lot of people who wash their vehicle and just let it air dry.  This can cause impurities in the water to be left behind on your paint when the water evaporates.  You should dry your vehicle with a soft cotton rag or a chamois.

Waxing.
Obviously waxing is one of the best way to help protect the paint on your vehicle and keep it shining for a long time to come!  Most waxes today also help combat the sun’s ultraviolet radiation.  Waxing will also prevent any dirt and grit from sticking to your vehicle’s paint.  This is definitely good for those nasty bird droppings that can eat at your paint!  If you want to learn more about waxing, make sure you check out our earlier post about waxing here.

Silverado HD, Volt, and Tahoe among “Best Value”!

More good news comes to Chevrolet!  The Chevrolet Volt, the Chevy Silverado 2500HD and the Chevrolet Tahoe were named segment winners in Vincentric’s 2012 Best Value in America!

This award is given to vehicles that have particularly low ownership costs and will also take into account everything from fuel costs, insurance and repairs and maintenance costs.  It also takes into consideration that these vehicles have a very low deprication value, which means that they hold their value longer!  That is good news!  Not only were those three vehicles named the winners, but also some of Chevrolet’s other makes such as the Chevy Avalanche along with the Silverado 1500 were very near the top.  As a result, Chevrolet as a whole was named the NO. 1 truck brand overall for value.

By now you have been hearing of the “Chevy Runs Deep” slogan that Chevrolet has been running. It can definitely strike a sentimental feeling towards many as, let’s face it, we all love our classic Chevrolets! Although, the sentimental value received is good, I know laughter always gets me talking about a brand the most! That is exactly what Chevrolet is thinking as well.

If you have not seen the television show, “The Office” then I will try to explain it the best I can. Basically the show is based on the office environment of a Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania called, Dunder Mifflin. The show follows the employees during their daily activities.  The employees are all very odd! The show is very funny, and if you have not seen it make sure you tune in for one of the episodes and see why it has become such a huge hit!

“Under the Blue Arch” is what Chevrolet is calling their spin-off of the hit comedy series, “The Office”. The characters portrayed seem very similar to those of the office. It will be very interested to see what all they come up with at this fictional Chevrolet Dealership set in California somewhere.

Driving in the Rain – Better Safe than Sorry!

It has been quite rainy over the past couple of weeks, and you know what that means!  More and more accidents…  There are many people around the Shreveport and Bossier City area that do not utilize cautionary driving when it is raining, and that can cause dangerous conditions for us all.

When it is rainy, remember that you should take your time and drive a bit more cautiously then if it is not raining.  Check out some tips below to help you get to your destination safely around the Shreveport and Bossier City area when it is rainy out.

  1. Slow down!  It takes longer to stop in rainy conditions, so make sure you allow for more space when breaking.  Take your time and get to where you need to go safely.
  2. Try to stay in middle lanes.  Water tends to pool up in the outside lanes because of slopes.  The water can cause you to hydroplane, so make sure you try to avoid the puddles of water.
  3. Do not follow too closely to vehicles in front of you.  Because of the wet roads, you won’t be able to stop as fast, so make sure you extend the usual “3 second following rule”.
  4. Try to stay back from large buses and trucks.  The spray from these vehicles and their large tires can severly impair your vision.
  5. Stay focused on the road at ALL times.  Keep an eye our for brake lights and make sure that you put your phone down!
  6. Avoid over using your breaks.  If you attempt to stop too quickly, you may lose control of your vehicle.  Try to anticipate your stops and just take your foot off the acceleration.
  7. Turn on your headlights even if it is light outside.  Visibility is drastically lower in rainy conditions, so  if you keep your headlights on then you can see easier, and other will see you easier.
  8. Make sure you check on your wiper blades.  They become dull and brittle and will not keep your windows as clean as normal.
  9. Try and stay on paved roads!  If you go on unpaved roads, remember that it can become extremely hard to tell if there are puddles in the road.
  10. When driving through puddles of water that you are not sure of the depth of, make sure you go extremely slow and cautiously!  If the water should go up to your door, then you should turn around and find another route.  Water can cause extensive damage to the vehicle and its electric systems.
