Chevy Silverado and Impala named Cars.com 2014 Car and Truck of the Year!

silveradocarscom impalacarscom

Cars.com picked the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Impala and the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado as its Best Car and Best Truck for 2014! These awards are presented each year at the North American International Auto Show. The award is a highly prestigious award, and for Patrick Olsen, editor-in-chief of Cars.com, states, “Winning just one of these awards for an automaker is pretty tough, given the high number of quality cars and trucks that debut each year. For Chevrolet to grab both awards show the depth of their ability to build desirable vehicles.”

The Silverado, along with the Impala, has been completely redesigned for the 2014 year. It earned its place at the top with its chassis strength, redesigned interior, and the new MyLink connected infotainment system. Alan Batey, General Motors senior vice president of Global Chevrolet states, “Winning these awards is a huge honor for Chevrolet. The fact that the top vehicles in both these categories is a Chevrolet speaks volumes about the strength of our entire portfolio”.

If you are looking to drive a Silverado in Shreveport and Bossier City or an Impala in Shreveport and Bossier City, make sure you come to Red River Chevrolet! We have a great selection of both vehicles! As always, make sure you follow us on Facebook and our blog to stay on top of everything happening with Chevrolet!

Chevy Sonic Turbo Now with Automatic Transmission!

Up until now, the Chevrolet Sonic was only available with an automatic transmission on the 1.8-liter naturally aspirated inline-four.  This is no longer the case, as Chevrolet has announced that they will be offering the 1.4L Turbo charged engine in the automatic in an attempt to appeal to a much wider range of shoppers.

Although you will see a dip in the fuel economy on the car when going to an automatic transmission, at 27/37 (city/highway) mpg, it still seems pretty good in our book!

The automatic Sonic Turbo is now available.

Silverado HD, Volt, and Tahoe among “Best Value”!

More good news comes to Chevrolet!  The Chevrolet Volt, the Chevy Silverado 2500HD and the Chevrolet Tahoe were named segment winners in Vincentric’s 2012 Best Value in America!

This award is given to vehicles that have particularly low ownership costs and will also take into account everything from fuel costs, insurance and repairs and maintenance costs.  It also takes into consideration that these vehicles have a very low deprication value, which means that they hold their value longer!  That is good news!  Not only were those three vehicles named the winners, but also some of Chevrolet’s other makes such as the Chevy Avalanche along with the Silverado 1500 were very near the top.  As a result, Chevrolet as a whole was named the NO. 1 truck brand overall for value.

Chevrolet to Build 69 COPO Camaro Drag Cars

Last year at the SEMA car show in Vegas, Chevrolet unveiled its COPO Camaro concept car.  Well it has just been released that Chevrolet will make this car a production reality!  However, it will only be 69 people that will get a chance to own one.  Why 69?  This is in celebration of the 69 COPO Camaro ZL1s that were built in 1969.  Chevrolet wants to keep the same number for this drag-strip-only car.

There are three engine choices with this car: a 427-cubic-inche V8 for AA Stock racing, a 327-cubic-inch V8 with a 4.0-liter Supercharger for A Stock racing, as well as a 327 cubic-inch engine but with a 2.9-liter supercharger for B Stock.  You can get all three engines if you wish.  Chevrolet will install one of them and then provide the other two with matching numbers.

There are three color schemes included with this car: a Metallic White, Inferno Orange Metallic, and a Chevy Racing Blue.  The price of this car will start at $89,000.  So if you are wondering how you can be one of the sixty-nine to get this car, we are wondering the same thing.  Chevrolet has not said as of yet.  We are also not clear on how many slots are available.

Chevy Sonic Aces NHTSA Crash Test!

The Chevrolet Sonic which is Chevrolet's smallest model performed REALLY well on the National Highway Safety Aministration's crash tests.  The car earned a FIVE-STAR overall safety rating.  Just a month or so ago, the Camaro was the first car to earn a perfect score under NHTSA's new harder testing regimen.  The Hatchback Sonic and the Sedan Sonic versions, both scored five-star ratings in every category excpet for the rollover category in which the Sonic earned four-stars.

This is great news for Chevrolet as this small car is going to show people that you can STILL be safe no matter what the size of the vehicle is.  Chevrolet is a doing a great job of keeping all of their vehicles sylish while still maintainig their safety.

The Sonic has a ton of features, and a ton of safety features as well.  I'm not going to bore you with listing all of them, but if you want to learn more about everything the Chevy Sonic has to offer, then head over to you local chevrolet dealership!

Chevrolet Press Release

2012 Chevrolet Sonic Models Get Top Safety Ratings
Subcompact 4-door and 5-door models achieve 5-star overall safety scores

DETROIT – The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic received a 5-star overall vehicle score for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The vehicle was tested under NHTSA's revised New Car Assessment Program implemented starting with the 2011 model year. The Sonic brings to 10 the number of General Motors 2012 models with 5-star overall vehicle scores for safety.

The overall rating is based on frontal and side crash tests in addition to rollover resistance testing. The three test conditions are combined mathematically into an "Overall Vehicle Score."

The Sonic achieved an overall vehicle score of 5 stars – the highest rating possible – even though Sonic received four stars for rollover. NHTSA applies the results for the Sonic sedan to the 5-door hatchback model because of the same safety equipment and performance

"We developed Sonic to exceed customer expectations of subcompacts in terms of segment-leading safety features," said Gay Kent, GM executive director of vehicle safety. "From the largest vehicles in our lineup to the smallest, we are putting overall crashworthiness and state-of-the-art safety technologies at the top of the list of must-haves."

The Sonic is designed to help drivers avoid crashes, while protecting occupants in a crash. Sonic offers an exceptionally strong body structure through the incorporation of a single welded side ring unit and more than 60 percent of the vehicle safety cage consisting of high-strength steel. Other standard safety features include:
