At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Chevrolet has announced that along with OnStar they are teaming up with AT&T to offer 4G LTE connectivity to the 2015 Corvette, Impala, Malibu and Volt as an extra option. The price has not yet been revealed. Also, the Equinox, Silverado, Silverado HD, Spark and EV Spark will have the option as well at a later date. Although not stated, It is also likely that the Traverse, Cruze, Sonic and Camaro will have the option added soon.
This technology will make your vehicle a Wi-Fi hotspot allowing for multiple connected devices delivering high-speed internet speeds. Chevrolet understands that today, consumers rely heavily on being connected at all times, and with 4G LTE, they will never miss a beat!
AT&T will allow current customers to add their vehicle to a sharable bucket of data through AT&T’s Mobile Share plans, while other drivers can simply pay for data as a standalone option. Additional pricing and data packages for OnStar 4G LTE will be announced later this year.
Along with these fast speeds, Chevrolet has also announced that the MyLink infotainment system will be enhanced with a built-in AppShop which will be available for select 2015 Chevrolet Models in the U.S. AppShop will utilize the available internet connection and allow users to search through all available apps and then download them directly to the vehicle. Available apps will connect drivers to vehicle data, music, news, weather, travel information, and much more. Some of the announced apps includes Vehicle Health, iHeartRadio, Priceline.com, The Weather Channel, NPR, Slacker Radio, TuneIn Radio, Cityseeker, Eventseeker, Glympse and Kaliki.
